Vacation-bound man ends up in Sidney, Montana after trying to book flight to Sydney, Australia

A man looking to travel Down Under ended up in the Treasure State after accidentally booking a flight to the incorrect city with the same name.

New Yorker Kingsley Burnett, who is originally from Jamaica, was looking to travel to Sydney, Australia but ended up mistakenly booking a flight to Sidney, Montana.

“I saw the little plane with like 9 passengers and wondered ‘how is that going to get me to Australia,’” the 62-year-old told the australia-ends-up-in-sidneymontana/”>New York Post. “That was when I caught onto the mistake I made.”

Burnett left New York’s La Guardia airport on the evening of Jan. 26 and ended up in Billings, Montana the following morning.

According to Storyful, travelers can connect from Billings to Sidney, which is roughly 250 miles east, but they cannot connect to Sydney, Australia from the airport because it’s 8,300 miles in the other direction.

“I had to find out for myself that Billings, Montana, would only take me to Sidney, Montana, where there are no kangaroos waiting to welcome Mr. Burnett,” he said.

The video of Burnett’s trip can be viewed in the media player at the top of this article.

During his trip, Burnett met American Airlines ticket desk employee Carol Castellano.

“He was really funny. Kingsley came, and he goes, ‘I’ve got a problem,’” Castellano told KTVQ.

Burnett told Castellano he was supposed to be heading to Sydney, Australia to depart on a cruise for a dream vacation.

She was able to help him book a hotel room and a flight home but Burnett wouldn’t be able to make it to Australia in time for his cruise.

“Montana didn’t have kangaroos. It had Carol. And that was good enough for me,” Burnett told KTVQ.

He rescheduled his trip to the land Down Under for June.
