How Iberostar is leading the way in sustainable tourism

It used to be difficult to achieve both goals, but Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has found a unique way to give people the vacation they’ve dreamed of all year long while keeping sustainability at the forefront of the experience.
“When we talk about sustainability, responsible tourism is really one of the core pillars for us,” says John Long, Iberostar’s VP of Sales and Business Development. The hotel chain boasts more than a hundred 4 and 5 star hotels in 16 countries, with 45 all-inclusive resorts in the Americas, so this environmentally responsible ethos goes a long way.

For the past two years, Iberostar Hotels have been 100% free of single-use plastic. The chain also adheres to strict “honest food” sourcing guidelines that result in farm-to-table dining experiences featuring ingredients local to each location. Best of all, this feature is part of the all-inclusive experience, at no additional cost to guests.
Some of Iberostar’s ambitious goals include being waste-free and 100% responsible in its seafood supply chain by 2025, and becoming carbon-neutral, to improve the health of the ecosystems surrounding its hotels, by 2030. Even cleaning products will need to be sustainable to help advance the company’s mission of responsible tourism.
